! 6RONC BUSTER !
The Clarendon Drenches did it again Friday night,October 19.
This time, however, the score was not 14-0. The Drones beat
Memphis 13-12. The game was a really close game the whole
way through. It kept the fans on their feet the whole time. The
Drenches never gave up and they showed Memphis and
Clarendon which is the better team.
Last week was a busy, busy week for the students at CHS.
Everyone knows what a rival Memphis is to Clarendon and that
fact alone kept us all hopping. Spirit was at an all-time high. The
cheerleaders worked downtown painting the windows...they
gathered boxes for the bonfire and they even found time to
rehearse their skit for the pep rally. The Spanish Club sponsored
a car Iash and that meant work. The car which was donated by
Calvin Burrow had to be painted...one time WOULD HAVE
BEEN sufficient! Then Thursday night there was the
bonfire...which turned out to be worth all the time and energy it
took to get it together. The B-team Drenches went to Memphis
that night to take on the Memphis B-team. The Drones lost 28-0.
Then came the next day...which was Friday. The day began with
a street rally. The day's activities never slowed up, and the
spirit never died down. The pep rally was one of the best ones
we've hadin quite a while. Playing Memphis gets everyone fired
up. The Sophomores received the spirit award. Coach Lemons
gave the pep talk, and the pep rally ended with the singing of the
school song. Then it was game-time. After the game, the juniors
of CHS sponsored a victory dance in the cafeteria.
The band went to Canyon last Tuesday to the UIL contest. It
must not have been our day, however. We came home with a III
rating...but it was because everyone got scared and just flat
messed up. Friday night's performance was a definite
improvement...some days we just don't march as well as other
days. The band was fired up anyway for Friday night. When the
ratings were announced at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium,
Memphis stood up and cheered as our rating came over the loud
speaker. We did get them back, though, didn't we? Andi Eads
did very well at contestmShe made a I on her twirling routine.
Kim Newhouse made a II and Karen Burgess made a Ill.
The Future Teachers of America held a meeting one day last
week. Mona Robinson was elected to run for a district office at
the district convention November 6. Mac Thornberry was elected
campaign manager. Liz Bromley, Roy Monroe, Jack Bell, Shirley
Wise, Karen Burgess and Mark Boothe were elected to the
campaign committe. The members then filled out point-sheets
and discussed *' : possibility of selling Christmas Cards as a
chapter project.
Freda White looked rather unhappy Friday night. But she
looked quite the opposite Saturday night.
Teresa Jack had a busy weekend.
Don't wdrry, Laura. I really think Gary can be trusted...even if
his old flame does come down over the weekend.
Cindy Price got excited at the game Friday night and broke her
clarinet in half.
Someone was busy with a paint brush Friday night. As a
result, the Student Council gets to write a letter to Memphis.
The B-team cheerleaders got a little scared Thursday night,
but they managed to make it home safely.
This week the Drenches play the Claude .Mustang s here in
Broncho Stadium. Game time is 7:30. The pep rally prior to the
game will begin at 3:30 Friday afternoon. The CHS Spanish Club
will sponsor a victory dance in the cafeteria after the Drones beat
Claude. Admission will be $1.00 per couple and $.75 for singles.
The club plans to have plenty of good food on hand so everyone
plan to come.
Go Drenches. We all have confidence in you to once again beat
the Claude Mustangs1 Good Luck[
